Privacy policy

Pulsark ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what we collect through pulsark.app and the Pulsark app, and how we use it. In short: we collect your email only if you give it to us, and nothing else identifies you.

Who is responsible

The data controller is Stig H. Våge, the developer of Pulsark, reachable at hello@pulsark.app. Pulsark is an independent product, not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple.

What we collect

Your email address, only when you enter it to join the newsletter or beta. Anonymous, aggregate usage statistics about this website via a cookie-free analytics tool - page views, referring site, country and device type, never tied to an individual and never combined with your email. The same tool counts a few anonymous actions: that a signup was submitted or failed, and that a sound kit was exported from Pulsark Studio. These are counts only - no email address, no file names and nothing about your samples or audio.

What we do not collect

No name, address or phone number. No payment information (that is handled by Apple through the App Store). No recordings, samples, sound banks or music you make - those stay on your device, and Pulsark Studio renders and exports entirely in your browser.

Why we collect it

To send you launch news and product updates, to invite you to beta testing through TestFlight, and to understand - anonymously and in aggregate - how the site is used so we can improve it.

Sharing

We never sell or share your email with third parties, except our email delivery provider, which processes it on our behalf under GDPR. We do not share data for advertising.

Watching the video

The video on the front page is hosted by YouTube, and nothing is requested from YouTube or Google until you press play - the still you see before that is our own screenshot, served from this site. When you do press play, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, and YouTube receives your IP address, your browser and device type, and the fact that you played this video. It may set storage in your browser at that point. Google acts as an independent controller for what it does with that, not as a processor on our behalf, so its own privacy policy applies - see policies.google.com/privacy. If you would rather not, simply do not press play: the rest of the page works exactly the same, and nothing is loaded in the background.

Storage

Your email is stored with our provider on servers in the EU. Anonymous statistics are stored in the EU. We keep your email until you ask us to delete it or unsubscribe.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in every email, and you can ask us to show you, or delete, everything we hold about you. Just email us and we will act on it promptly. Outside the mailing list there is nothing to retrieve: the website statistics and the app’s crash reports are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you, and everything the app stores sits on your own device, where deleting the app removes it.

The Pulsark app

The app itself requires no account and asks for no personal details. Your projects, samples, sound banks and recordings stay on your device. Release builds do send crash and stability diagnostics - crash reports, app hangs, unexpected terminations, and technical context such as device model, iOS, iPadOS or macOS version, app version and audio-route changes - so that faults can be found and fixed. This is diagnostic data about the software, not about you: it carries no name, email or account, and is never used to track you or build a profile. Crash reports may include a screenshot of the app at the moment of failure, with all text masked. Debug builds send nothing. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs at all - the website statistics described above are a website matter and stop at the browser.

Where the app keeps your work

Projects, samples, sound banks and recordings live on your device: in the app’s own container and in an App Group container it shares with the Pulsark AUv3 plug-in, so a DAW host project can reference the same files. Settings - audio buffer size, MIDI channel, interface preferences - are stored in the same place. None of it leaves the device unless you export or share it yourself, and deleting the app removes all of it.

Microphone

Pulsark asks for microphone access only when you record a sample. Audio goes straight into your local project. We never receive, process or transmit a recording. You can revoke access at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Files you import and export

When you import audio, or export loops, stems, songs or projects, files are read from and written to locations you pick yourself through the standard iOS, iPadOS or macOS document picker or share sheet. We have no access to those locations and no record of what you moved.

The AUv3 plug-in

The Pulsark audio unit runs inside whichever host you load it in - GarageBand, Logic Pro for iPad, AUM and the rest - and follows this same policy. No personal data is collected there either; the same anonymous crash reporting applies. The open-source AudioKit framework the app is built on runs entirely on your device and sends nothing anywhere.

Who processes data for us

Two processors act on our behalf under GDPR data-processing agreements, and neither may use the data for their own purposes. Brevo (Sendinblue) handles newsletter and beta email, storing addresses on EU servers - see brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy. Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) receives the app’s crash and stability diagnostics described above, hosted in Sentry’s EU region and kept for 90 days before deletion; file names and paths from your projects and samples are scrubbed from reports before they are sent - see sentry.io/privacy. Sentry also receives technical error reports from the small server-side function behind the signup form, so that a failure there is noticed rather than leaving you with an error message we never see: these carry the fault itself and nothing about you - no email address, no IP address, no form contents - and the address is reduced to its domain before anything leaves our code. The website statistics described above are produced by Umami, which we run ourselves on our own server in the EU (Microsoft Azure, West Europe, acting only as hosting provider). No analytics company receives your data, the tool is cookie-free and stores no personal data, and that is why this site shows no cookie banner.

Legal basis

Under the GDPR we rely on your consent (Article 6(1)(a)) for the newsletter and beta invitations, which you give by ticking the box and can withdraw at any time. For crash and stability diagnostics we rely on legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in keeping the software working, balanced by collecting no personal identifiers.

Children

Pulsark is a music production tool made for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Complaints

If you think we handle your data incorrectly, please contact us first - we would rather fix it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; in Norway that is Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.no).

Changes

We may update this policy as the product and its launch evolve, and will publish any changes on this page with a new "last updated" date.
